I don't think we'll be relegated, but we'll miss some creativity in the midfield. However, if the wages saved go to securing the futures of players like Baines, Fellaini and Jagielka then I cannot complain.

We need to move on now, its time for a new era at Goodison Park. And if its anywhere as near as good as when Rooney left then I believe that we are going to have some good 6 years ahead of us with the emergence of Rodwell and Barkley.

Mate, when Rooney left we had the proceeds of much of that sale to rebuild with, assets like training grounds and car parks to sell off, and banks still willing to lend credit in a credit boom. Times have changed.

I think everyone is going over the top about it tbh. People talk like Rodwell, Fellaini, Osman, Bily and now Drenthe can't pass a ball. Just because we might actually get some balls into the box it doesn't make us the new Stoke.

We've played mostly without Arteta in the past two years too and we still played passing football and could score, we have much better players than Stoke too.

None of those are capable of settling into a playmaker role on existing evidence. I'd say we're going to have to rely on a 17 year old even more than we thought we'd have to in order to avoid a major change in the style of play toward the one we all used to tear our hair out about. We wait and see.

I honestly don't believe it's all doom and gloom after yesterday.

We've played plenty games of great football without Arteta.

Even though we're without Arteta and Pienaar now, I still think we have a lot of talented players that can really step up to the plate in their absence. We have Barkley (Who has already shown a lot.), Drenthe, Gueye, and Baxter who are all young players and can step up replace them. Osman can play on the wing or on the center, and Billy might even get a chance in his best position now. Another thing that might happen is that Rodwell might get a good run of games as CM as well, which is what he really needs.

I just read on the guardian site that our new lamp post Denis was rejected by Leicester city after a trial... please someone tell me this isn't true.

The salaries of the departed totalled around £9m, although it is not £9m off the wage bill once Drenthe and Denis Stracqualursi, the Argentina striker signed on a season's loan after failing to impress Sven- Göran Eriksson on trial at Leicester, plus their loan fees are factored in.

Can't quantify my disappointment. Crying out for creativity and a striker. Moyes sells 2 strikers and our most creative midfielder. Replacing them with two loans.

The quality of the loans remains to be seen, i rate Drenthe, i think he will do well here, though the concern is we have brought in a player deeemed not good enough to loan by Leicester back in July, and sold our main striker (ironically to Leicester).

Yeah, he supposedly had a weeks trial there after being touted around the uk

Not like our attack was dynamic before

Godforbid we actually attack down the wings and put the ball into the penalty area with a striker that can play in the air along with Fellani and Cahill.

Taking all that into account it was a good piece of business, if we got that money to reinvest on other players and time to do so. But we won't see any of that money and we didn't have time to sign replacements so it's pissed me off.

This. 100% this.

Our biggest problem the past two seasons was the fact that we had one striker running channels (Beckford) and one player able to get balls in (Baines). Arteta hasn't really been instrumental in getting balls in behind opposition defences since 1,5 years back and then only on rare flashes of brilliance.

Hopefully Drenthe can lift some pressure off Baines, and once Coleman is back he'll be our most direct player. As long as we control the center mid, probably by brute force through Fellaini and maybe Heitinga, we can deliver balls to our wingers who will push on. Now we have to hope el Straca is the box player people seem to think..
