Shortlist announced on Wednesday. Any thoughts? Predictions?

I'll go for a rank outsider - Beth Jeans Houghton. Terrific album.

I wouldn't begrudge Richard Hawley winning though

My money is on Alt-J

After seeing the nominations (which I'm led to believe you have to put yourself forward for), I stand by this choice

I'd go with either Alt-J or Django Django myself.

Probably the latter as it's that bit more innovative, and downright weird.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Richard Hawley win though.

It's a close one between Django Django and Alt-J for me. Both are fantastic albums but I'd probably have to go for Django Django, purely because the Mercury Music Prize is about celebrating innovation and new ideas.

Ahh I've just noticed that I've pretty much done RFUS' post word for word.

I think Django Django's album is more consistent though. The Alt-J LP has some ace songs but I find myself going from start to finish more with DD.

Both would be very worthy winners though. Although I'm really, really disappointed Breton's LP wasn't acknowledged -- that was probably my favourite British debut of the year. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs' and 2:54's debuts were brilliant also. Non debut-wise, The Twilight Sad's 2012 release was my pick of the bunch.

All in all a good year for British music.

Still can't get into Django Django, I've got the same thing with their album where I can't listen to all of it

Love the TEED album

It's all opinions I guess. For me neither was my favourite British release of the year, debut or otherwise, but from that list I'd say both would be good winners. I've really enjoyed each and they're quite left field and well, different. That's what the award is about, isn't it?

I hate the fact I wrote TEED

Mobile Mode was annoying me.

Haha.

Sure is Roof Dogg.

Even though she's probably not released anything this year, I'm still amazed Pj Harvey hasn't been nominated...
