Just wondering is there a precedent now been set with UEFA and the ruling On Thiabaut Courtois being allowed to play for athletico Madrid against Chelsea in champions league semi final even though he is on loan. Can't post the link but they say it's against their rules to protect the integrity of sporting competition

Sahin played for Dortmund last season against Real in the semi mate when on loan from Madrid, exact same situation here really, the loan rule against parent clubs has only ever applied to league games int he prem

Two ways to look at that! Premier League want Top Teams to get an advantage

or

Premier League want to minimise the chance of match fixing by an on-loan player.

Think it should be up to the clubs to specify whether the loaned player can play against the parent club in the contract, up front. It's not fair to any of the parties for this to be decided after the fact.

And as to the match-fixing possibility, I think there's an equally good chance of it for pre-agreements. Can't think of when it's been an issue, but for instance in last year's champions league final what if neither Dortmund or Bayern were in champions league places in the league? Seems like much more of a conflict of interest for Goetze than if he was on loan.

edit: Apparently the UEFA ruling would strike down any such clause in a contract anyways. Wonder why this doesn't apply to domestic leagues. Do La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga etc. have similar provisions?
