The loan conundrum!?!

Levy has had to sell cheap recently. How much has Huddlestone, Livermore, Sandro etc all been sold for. They've got rid of almost a whole team in the last couple of years. I can't imagine them getting big bucks for them.

If he has Modric and Bale he can hold out however if he's trying to get rid then he's in the same position as everyone else. i.e. The players have all the power and he wants them off the wage bill.

I'm sure other teams think the same about Bill getting the kind of money he has for Lescott, Rodwell, Fellaini, Jelavic and Aniciebie.
Spurs didn't lose money on any of those 3. sandro went for 10m (spurs signed for 10m euro), Huddlestone 5m( spurs signed for 2.5), Livermore (academy product) was a club record fee for hull ( over 7m they paid for shane long). Exactly we got 12-13m combined for jela and vic, Lennon was never going under 5m ( 27 and English)

Was reading today about the fact that Spurs have put a £6m tag on Lennon. It got me to thinking about the loan system and the pro's and con's of it and what others thoughts are...

I can't help but think that the systems main flaw is that players that know their time at their home club is done that they play out of their skin for a contract at the loan club and then once thats sealed and they have their 2-4 year contract at £40-60k a week that is their effort done! Im not saying he has played badly on purpose but look at Gareth Barry, from last season to this. The league has not changed that much that he has gone from the media thinking he may be worth an England call to this season being at least 2 yards off the pace.

Granted, the benefit of the loan system is that players like Ross Barkley could go out to Leeds etc and get real life, vocational experience and so in that context it works well.

So I can't help but think that are we about to see the same thing this year and should we be using the loan system in the way that we are? Perhaps we should use it for loans like Deulofeu (Young, hungry and gifted) and if we can make those permanent then perhaps that is the way we do things and then avoid the other type of loan... Thoughts???

....I suggest your theory of playing for a permanent is not cynical, it must happen in some cases. Saying that, it is not restricted to loan deals. I can also remember instances of improved form when a players contract is up for renewal. There was an international who played for our neighbours and spent much of his time out injured, he came back in the final year of his contract and turned in brilliant performances, was awarded a new deal only for the same thing to happen.

I suppose getting a player on loan does give a manager an insight into the character of the individual and whether they might be fragile in the longer term. Manager's can also consider the players record at the mother club. In lennon's case I get the impression he's a good pro.
