The loan conundrum!?!

Player Valuation: £25k
Was reading today about the fact that Spurs have put a £6m tag on Lennon. It got me to thinking about the loan system and the pro's and con's of it and what others thoughts are...

I can't help but think that the systems main flaw is that players that know their time at their home club is done that they play out of their skin for a contract at the loan club and then once thats sealed and they have their 2-4 year contract at £40-60k a week that is their effort done! Im not saying he has played badly on purpose but look at Gareth Barry, from last season to this. The league has not changed that much that he has gone from the media thinking he may be worth an England call to this season being at least 2 yards off the pace.

Granted, the benefit of the loan system is that players like Ross Barkley could go out to Leeds etc and get real life, vocational experience and so in that context it works well.

So I can't help but think that are we about to see the same thing this year and should we be using the loan system in the way that we are? Perhaps we should use it for loans like Deulofeu (Young, hungry and gifted) and if we can make those permanent then perhaps that is the way we do things and then avoid the other type of loan... Thoughts???

Gareth Barry is 34 years old.

Surely a trained physio, El Fraudo, would realise that players of that age can go downhill quite rapidly, he doesnt even need to guess it, the players are monitored every training session, did alarm bells not ring at some point near the end of the season? But I suppose that was put down to fatigue.

As for the loan system, overall its served us well over the years, theres the hits, Arteta, Pienaar, the misses Anthony Gardner, Lacina Treeo and the WTFS, Sander Westveld. But overall I think we have done quite well.

And two more years to go!!!(n)

We have to try before we buy so to speak, the loan system benefits us because we only loan what's in our price range so there is no false hope

What got me thinking as well was now Spurs are asking for 6 mil. Would they have been asking for that amount in January or could he have gone for half that? Look at Lukaku too. A good loan spell and the price goes up- a poor one and we don't go for it anyway. Seems a bit like an expensive gamble- but swings and roundabouts I guess. We also get the chance to send out our younger players for priceless first team football.

Yes, and we need to use it in full this Summer

I think we will. I suspect the fact that we finished fifth last season restricted the number of players from English clubs who were available on loan to us because the teams above and around us saw us more of a threat to their positions. That's not so likely to be the case next season.

The Atsu loan sort of disproves that apart from the fact that Mourinho knew we weren't a threat to the top two.

Am hoping for 1 gun and 2 Deulofeu types loans this Summer.
With no big Lukaku type transfer fee we should have the funds for a number of transfers.

Leavy never sells cheap so even in Jan don't think he wouldve sold lennon for less than 4-5m.

It's all about playing it right. Not an easy task mind. In heinseight, would of been better taking the excellent season given by Barry and leaving it at that. Taking say song this year instead would of been a better move.

But hey ho...Maybe that separates the good managers to the very good.
