Okay. So if you're in the UK - which I imagine most are - we're not currently in lockdown and we can still get out and about in terms of exercise even if gyms etc are shut.

So I was thinking, a bit like the fitness log (mods, feel free to merge if needed) we could post in here ideas/ways of keeping active over the next however many weeks. Whether you do it yourself or see something online which you think is worth sharing.

I have been alternating between gym and run on a daily basis for the last two months now. Obviously I can no longer do that so have ordered an exercise ball and step box to go with the weights I have at home. I'll step up my running as much as possible but need to be careful as my left hamstring is quite literally made of cheese string.

I know @COYBL25 is keen on the old fitness regime and @Bruce Wayne is a keen cyclist (though I know him and his missus are currently in isolation and I hope everything's well!). Any others who are regularly in the fitness log thread - maybe this one is good for you too.

I'll start. Today I did an hour run, just a steady one as yesterday was my running day so really today should have been my gym day but I haven't got the stuff yet. In the gym when I do my cardio I've been doing interval on the bike and treadmill, but given my run yesterday was quite fast I didn't want to overload my hamstring so kept it steady. Did 11.5k (the last 10k I did took me 47 mins so I was off that pace but not really bothered about the time of it tbh today. Just wanted to get out.

In lieu of the gym intervals I'm gonna try to incorporate 2-3 hill training runs in a week as I find that a really good way to boost fitness quickly (thanks @COYBL25 for that tip ages ago) and I reckon one long, steady run like today. Will also do 1-2 (depending on how many hill training sessions I've done) 30-minute runs at a quicker pace in a week as well. All the while I'll use the weights I have at home and replicate the exercises I would in the gym as closely as possible (obviously I can't use leg press or cables or what not but I can get close enough to a lot of stuff).

Also there's loads of gyms running free sessions online. This gym in Leeds, my sister works at and they're doing some vids on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/l1performance/channel/?hl=en

There's HIIT and yoga classes etc. And the vids stay up on the Instagram as far as I know.

Also, if you google it, Leganes' fitness coach is doing live streams of exercises he uses with the team on Twitch (I believe). Free to sign in and watch and you basically go along with a professional workout. Might be ideal for people working from home.

Anyway, just thought it's something a bit nicer to talk about over the next however many weeks.

The NHS has a set of 24 exercise videos ranging from 10-45 mins

and this article has some other good suggestions

Be careful on the hill sprints with the hamstring, don`t do too many too many start with - 10 is good number to start with and then add one on each week.

If you read up on them, they reckon there`s a point where you aren`t get any benefit by doing more. ( around 20 from memory )

Another good one, which hurts like hell, but it`s short and sharp is running at near full capacity for a couple of miles. ( believe me it`s a killer ! )

Make sure you warm up and warm down properly afterwards with both though.

Done the lawns earlier. Cycle to work most days, and will go jogging with missus couple of times a week. Press ups, pull ups and I’ve got a couple of rusty dumb bells in the garden which I will use.
