July will see George Osborne announce the 12 billion pound cuts to the welfare system & other measures in an unusually timed budget.

I'll be interested in two things: will he backslide on the Tory promise not to damage benefits for the sick & disabled, and how Labour will respond to his plan.

Cuts of some sort to Child and Work tax credits seem likely; wouldn't be surprised at some 'sneaky' darts at D L A / P I P - taxing it maybe. Perhaps limiting the amount of Housing Benefit people can get could be in the pipeline.

My guess is that Labour will fulminate against his plans and then when pressed, will have little answer to the question, "What would you do given you preached welfare cuts of your own?" I hope they'll be convincing, but ... !

Does it really matter what labour think though mate as their not in government and the tories are and also have a majority?

Let's be honest, this thread is just another thinly veiled opportunity to abuse the Tories. I'm pretty sure we all understood how much hatred there is for them from the GE thread.

I'm all for helping out poorer countries, but when you send hundreds of millions to India each year and they're trying to go into space you have to wonder.
Do they still call it foreign aid? I thought they termed it 'international development' or something like that, as much of the 'aid' is really just palm-greasing.

And rape kids on buses. They shouldn't get any of the Irish bailout money!

Not sure what its called, but I do believe that humanity owes it to itself to look after eachother, the problem is there's too many greedy and swindling third world country leaders out there ensuring it never reaches those who need it.

A tricky one, but one we must try.

Nearly 12 Billion last year if what I read was correct, 0.7% of Gross National Income. It's madness.
