All this talk about 140,000+ signatures signing a petition to legalise marijuana may actually trigger a debate in the commons. Thoughts on this?

I think I did this a while back.

Majority voted yes.

I'm not a big hitter of it myself but it's a ridiculous thing to be criminalised.

Never used any drugs, well, illegal ones. But I reckon there are others that are far more addictive and harmful.

My only concern would be the "normalisation" , if that is even a word, of it for future generations, and the obvious, "Well this drug is legal, why not this one" escalation.

And booze and ciggies do more damage to society anyrate.

So NEA in conclusion.

I voted yes not because I am personally in favour of cannabis use, but I see the criminalisation of many drugs as detrimental to our society.

Not suggesting a free for all, as I've witnessed the negative effects drug use may have, however the current system just doesn't work.

State regulated and subsidised supply of many substances would remove power from the criminals fraternity and ensure people get support.

I would personally support a Portugal-like drug reform but full legalization for marijuana.

I don't smoke the stuff (but did dabble in my yoof)
I think a decriminalisation on possession should be a minimum starting point. It's quite clear that an outright prohibition does not work and a government refusal to even acknowledge this would show a complete disassociation from a large part of the public opinion.

Wasn't our prime minister calling for more 'liberal' drug laws back in 2005? What happened to that?

Partial works for me.

Make possession legal for small amounts, allow folk to grow a bit for personal use and control the supply in a similar way to how it's done in Holland.

I'd go for a maximum amount of THC in legal drugs as well. Some of the high % stuff is to cannabis what Special Brew is to your average pint.

This. Fully regulated & massively taxed. (Keep the prices the same as street levels, just impose the same duty rate as alcohol or tobacco)
