1970 mexico

"Best". (Whatever that means), 1970 I guess. As in so many "Bests" happened in it. Best side ever, best save ever, best tackle ever, best goal ever. First in colour as well, which was ace. But I was only 5 at the time, so didnt appreciate any of that. Other than the colour TV, which we had to go next door to watch cos we didnt have one.

I was 9 when i saw possibly the prime of world cup cream, (MEXICO 70) in colour FFS!!!

1970's the first one I remember ( apparently I watched the '66 final on telly until I fell asleep, but don't actually remember it ) and I was all over it. Nothing's quite come close to that, I was crushed when we were battered by W. Germany.

Best in football terms was, as mentioned before,1970, save, goal, team, player etc,

But for me 1990 because the whole summer was one great big massive party, the game times weren't too erratic which meant drinking patterns weren't too disrupted.

We took turns at doing barbecues for the lads, just meat and beer.

Really hot, long summer, topped off with all night parties in the North West, and then there was the Quad :)

And then there was this bloke as well...

quality film, I got that for Xmas in 86, watched it loads of times. Didn't watch any of the games live though.

Has 1982 got a claim to being a better world cup though? Classic games like Brazil-Italy, France-Germany. Iconic players (Zoff, Rossi, Zico, Falcao, Rumenigge, Platini etc). Tardelli's celebration etc.

Was,nt Marco Tardelli,s celebration just the best? it had a degree of passion i,ve not witnessed since!

1990 for me. Absolutely brilliant besides the semi shoot out where I blubbed like a little girl for hours!! Great viewing with Schillachi, Roger Milla, Cameroon seemingly getting players sent off left , right and centre. David Platt's last minute winner against Belgium, our epic win (or flukey win against Cameroon)

To top it off it had the greatest ring binder sticker book which you collected weekly.

Not to mention Pavarotti and friends.

Other than England 1966?

Italia 90, hands down

Brazil 1970 comes a close second purely because of Brazil
