It's difficult to judge who the best player ever is/was, but these two articles attempt to explain who was the best big game scorer (not the best player) by doing some pretty basic maths.

This one is by football journo Miguel Delaney.

This one is by football blogger Liam Corbett.

Decent lunchtime read and some ammo in the pub later if who is better Messi or C. Ronaldo drunken debate occurs.

One of two who didn't watch El Clasico in Barcelona tonight (future reference if your ever in Barcelona go to Cardes Pub it's run by a fellow blue). Sounds like Messi was anonymous, has anyone seen the game? Would it be fair to say Cristiano scores more important goals?

No. Messi's scored in 2 CL finals. asell as against virtually everyone else. Ronaldo is a great goal scorer undoubtedly, and seems to have a taste for Barça. Hoever he doesn't generally show in big games.

Ian Rush was fantastic for it in the 80s the bell.

Ronaldo has set a record with goals in 6 consecutive El Classicos.
