The Grand National

Didn’t see any horses die in the National, did you? As I’ve said before , where are you for the other 9 months of jump racing.

….my understanding is there wasn’t a single equine casualty over the 3 days on the National course. One of the amateur jockey’s broke an elbow when he unseated at the Chair but the fences are totally different to 5 years ago, including the landing sides. Making the fields smaller, bring the first fence forward and the standing start sensible additions.

It’s not the race it was, it’s now run and generally won by the best quality horses in the game, it’s not the lottery it was. Lovely to see so the highest number of finishers in 20 years and so many in with a chance coming to the last.
