He’s a footballer who came along 30 years too early, really.

Everything about him inspired Messi, and he contended with a more physical game.
His own personal demons hindered him, but look at his impact at Napoli, for example.

Messi is undoubtedly one of the greatest to play the game, but he’s never had to “drag” a side along. He benefitted from learning the game and developing in one of, if not the greatest team of all time, in that 2008-2012 Barcelona side.

Think you could easily have had a conversation for Brazilian Ronaldo, had injuries not hampered him… watching videos of him, and no one compares to his footwork, it’s scary almost.
