The Foreign boys support....

my family came out of Knowsley, we have now spread all over merseyside and up to manchester, but it was me mum and dad who moved furthest to birmingham for their sins, we would travel back on a semi regular basis,
with a true evertonian dad(former season ticket holder as with all his brothers) and an rs mum, they didn't push me either way letting me choose, my uncle on the other hand left nothing to chance and on one such trip home(because it is home), he came and rescued me from a day helping to decorate me nans parlour, wisking me of in the car goodison bound, we wandered round the streets in the shadow of the ground trying to scounge a ticket, me uncle had to buy himself a second ticket just so we could be together, I will never forget the buzz in the streets the nervous anticipation, I was hooked before seeing a ball kicked or a whistle blown, we sat down to the roar as sharpy and the lads ran onto the pitch, Tony cottee had just signed from west ham and within thirty seconds we where one nil up, my blood turned blue for ever. I dont get to many games at goodison i'm only in double figures for almost thirty years of faithful support, its only through the internet now that I rarely miss a game, but for years it was only the tv that kept my addiction fueled, then came sky, the w**kers, and I was left with the radio,
I count myself as a toffee in exile because that is how I felt wondering round amongst the non believers, but I was not alone everywhere I have been and gone I have always found others the unseen blue halo that surrounds us calls us together. I have met blues from all over the world, Hong kong, new Zealand, austalia and many more far flung corners.
they are not like the supporters of those across the park and down the road, many have supported through the dark days when all we could look forward to was a relagation battle, these too have felt the hurt, the abuse from other's, the taunts,
its true when they say one blue is worth twenty reds.
so heres to us, all foreign blues, blues in exile and those how grace the the halls of goodison, rain or shine, without fail.

Well done Sharpy. But here's the thing. Being an Evertonian takes as much effort for me as breathing. I don't think about it, it just comes naturally. I've told my story before, but since this seems appropriate, I'll tell a shortened version here. I was chosen at the beginning of the 2004 season, when we sold Rooney and finished 4th. The beginning, mind you, not after. Everton symbolize everything that I love about sports, and being a fan. I can't put it any more succinctly than that. I decided to become a football fan prior to that season (just the American stuff for me prior). But I knew that to really enjoy it, I needed a team. Top 4 were instantly disqualified. Wasn't even an option. At the end of the day though I just started watching the games, and Everton in particular, because of the whole Rooney thing. And God bless 'em, they just started winning...and winnning...and winning. I wasn't a football expert by any means (and I'm still not although I watch A LOT - and not just Everton), but I knew enough to know that this shouldn't be happening. So how else to explain it? The indefinable.

For a long time, it was a solo experience for me. I wasn't on the message boards, none of my other friends were football fans at that time (although one is now - Spurs fan though). So I didn't have that sense of community, that I have now that I'm on here. But what does that tell you? I felt it, even though I had no tangible sense of it. I just knew.

Looking forward to my first trip to Liverpool, and to Goodison, and I hope that when I do come, I can actually meet a few of you in person and toss back a few pints!

Cheers to all worldwide. COYB!

wow, american from the southeast where our college football is a way of life, been reading this site for some time now, trying to learn what i could since i don't have much knowledge of the game and have only been into it for about 2-3 years. i first got exposed to the euro game with espn showing champions league matches and got hooked. i was looking for a team to call mine, so i naturally sided with the english ones. christmas of 08 i got a fifa video game and in the manager mode since i couldn't use the only teams i'd ever heard of i picked everton, the one with the same colors as my school. i later looked everton up on the internet and realized that it was right. i've only been able to see about 15 to 20 live games, which sometimes means waking up at 6 in the morning on saturday when i'd usually sleep until 10 (being a young one and all) and have been mesmerized by what i see. i regularly look up videos and articles so i can get up to speed with the team's history and current news. really hope to get to see a game in person sometime in my life.

I was born in Bootle and had a season ticket for 15 years, moved to canada 5 years ago and have only got back once since, i miss the atmosphere on match days, the craic in the pubs before and after and most of all i miss evertonians, so just wanted to say that i agree with how amazing it is that the lads from different countries following the blues week in week out cos i know how hard it is here(6am games on the computer!)
