The 'football leadership team' model

Is a football leadership team better than a DOF?

Honestly hadn't paid much attention to the backroom changes at Everton until the Nick Hammond thread.

So it appears the club have jettisoned a single director of football model in favour of a 'football leadership team'.

A space to discuss and analyse effectiveness and performance of this aspect of the club.

I expect a football analyst team approach to this thread, btw. No fighting.

I like the way it’s set up - each department judged on outcomes reporting to the CEO who maintains ultimate accountability. It shows strong leadership from Kinnear as he’s removed an easy place to hide (behind a DOF)

I’ve always found it strange that in what is still a relatively small business (given turnover and headcount) that you need layers of management. The CEO should be able to pull all the strings with this structure and have his feet held to the fire if it doesn’t work by the owners.

Its also easier to maintain as we’ve seen that when a DOF gets potted we are left with a host of players that no one wants any more.

I like the setup too, in theory anyway.

In any structure like this, you need clear leadership and for everyone else to know who has the final say. Some disagreement is normal and beneficial, you need critical voices rather than groupthink. But not too much.

I'm guessing there might be a conflict between the players that Moyes wants versus others that may have come from the others, through a more analytical process. Not saying either approach is right or wrong.

I am unimpressed so far and i don't accept this give them time to settle. They were hired because of how good they are at what they do and don't need a learning curve. Too many people having a bite of the cherry and taking way too long. It is almost as if there is a law that you can only work on one signing at a time and waste a month dithering about it. Not that the DOF model is any better because i don't like that either. The manager should have had more clout imo.
