I also remember reading fairly recently that there's a link with sugar and depression. If I can find the source I'll post it. It centred on brain chemistry and how sugar obliterates and them replicates certain facets of our brain chemistry that regulates the feeling of happiness, and explains why depressed people often find solace in eating sugary things.
