A lot of what he did was frankly unlistenable - just growling and shouting over discordant backing, and no amount of plays could improve matters.

But he also wrote some sublime numbers with great lyrics.

I quite liked his bloody-minded persona. His book is worth a read.

I`ve really tried to like them, but they`re just crap and Mark E Smith was a grade A knob jockey.

My mate has bought everything they have ever produced.he lives by them.but mes must be loaded and put all theses albums out himself.I can't see how he could make money though.its too hardcore can't listen for long.its a no from me.

Just been listening to ‘Repetition’ on some post-punk compilation. Still sounds boss. They’re fantastic, especially their early stuff. Completely unique. Haven’t really listened to anything they’ve done since the early 90’s though...
