The facts dont support the notion we've slipped away from the top 6

Standard measuring points in the game: New Years Day onward/last 10 games.

I'm not going to apologise that they show us in a decent light.
Again, the only "standard" to judge us by is our league position at the end of the season. Anything else is playing with statistics.
Anyway, let's enjoy yesterday's win brought about by a stunning display from Steven Naismith.

Players have started the season fresh without World Cup hangover of last year

No Europe to deal with

And some excellent signings, key players retained, returns from injury and young players coming through. Seem to have too many midfielders - but at least means strong competition for places, plenty of options and ability to mix things up

Martinez appears to have sorted his tactics out also

Very good chance of top 6 this season - could even go slightly better - exciting

Not having the Europa distraction this season might aid us in getting into the Europa next season...catch 22 anybody?

If it happens, and I hope it does, then we'll go into the Europa with a younger, stronger squad than we did last season.

We'll also have a manager who will be planning a Europa campaign for the second time, who'll have learnt from last season and will hopefully tweak things accordingly.

Early days yet though. We're only five games into the league, one thing at a time.

Correct and Mirallas and DelBoy might get a few games too ;-)

Why Europa when we can get Champions League? xx
The squad is capable with a bit of luck
