The demise of our Club

Good post mate, but would you swap all that, to wake up one morning, look in the mirror, and realise you're a kopite. See. It could be a lot worse.
of course not mate I love Everton like I said I'm not interested in any other club just making the comparison with what I think they do right and we do wrong.

Plenty on other clubs you could of compared us to ! why pick the RS from across the park ? could of used chelsea, man city, man utd etc! for me as an Evertonian you should never big them lot up !

Demise? What Demise? Didn't you go to the Wimbledon or Coventry games?
I know we weren't as big as United when the Premier League began but we'd won more league titles than them... You just have to look at the path both clubs have followed since to see what a complete cock up the last 20 odd years have been for us.

There's been such a lack of ambition from those at the top and a belittling of our status within the game- to the point where we're just making up in the numbers in the league.

I think for too long as fans we've put up with it, mainly due to the fear of coming across as whinging Kopites/Geordies or whatever else people would call us. It's about time we started demanding more and not accepting this second rate crap we're constantly served up with. I know you've got to have a degree of realism but you've also got to send a message out that we're not having it anymore.
Well said mate, we are the only one of the original "Big 5",who have dropped out , and are now laughed at by many at any suggestion of us being a big club. The running(or lack of) by this board over the last 20 years is nothing short of scandalous ,and what frightens me even more is how Mr Everton and the rest of the frauds on the board , have not only got away with it but how easily evertonians have slipped into the Millais, and the acceptance of absolute mediocrity in the extreme!

Who do you think the big five were?

Good thread. I really hope that Moshiri becomes the knight in shining armour that he is being made out to be. Being at the same level as Stoke is no fun at all.

It's not who I think they were, it was a bracket they were put in by the "football world"! Everton, sh.te, spuds, arsenal n Utd ! Fact
I thought you were Rafael when you said "fact"
You are nearly right the original big 5 were Arsenal, Everton, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs only talking the positions from the later part 20th century Liverpool enter the big five taking the place of Tottenham.
Now I know that is right because my first game was the in 1946 and I am fortunate to have seen first division football except our only relegation in the early fifties, although fortunately that was short lived, post war I believe Liverpool spent 17 years in the 2nd division which certainly would not make the big five clubs.

I will bow to your many more years watching football, but my "big 5" memories only go back to late 70s onwards . Fact :)

I saw Walter Smith put Kevin Campbell in midfield.

We're going to be alright.

And I've seen John Stones & Mo Besic at right back.

The fact is that there's now about 3 or 4 clubs who have now moved ahead of us, and hopes of ever finishing in the top 7 again - never mind the top 4 - have massively receded.

We are reliving the Smith/Walker years right now. Things are as bad or worse now as they were under Smith. And no, the football isn't better either, that's another myth. Sideways passing with no threat in the final third isn't good football.

Good post!

I agree with you.

All i can say is, that I wish this "retirement home" mentality from the board would come to a end.

Zzzzzzzzz z z

There is an argument that Bill Kenwright should never have been Chairman or major shareholder in the club.

On the basis he is not rich enough to own a premier league football club.

Simple as that in my view.

Thankfully his era is at an end.

Mark Twain said "the announcement of my death were slightly premature"
Everton will not sink as some fear on this thread, the pool of talent in the youth ranks is better than any I have seen, we really do have some very good players there, and if you have time I recommend you to watch them.
With the introduction of money from the new shareholder, I can not see anything than a bright future, some take each result as for warning of
doom.
Evertonians, have had to eat some dirt since the time they stopped us from winning the European cup, which sticks badly in my throat, it precluded the break up of our best team and the loss of our best manager, make no mistake they would have spoken about Howard in same breath as Sir Alex Ferguson, had this not happened,
Evertonians never say die, we will be back as a big 5 and Champions
