A thread for people to discuss/recommend any theatre shows, plays, musicals, art exhibitions or museums that they have been to recently/ever.

I've been to a couple shows recently: The Lion King on Saturday at the Lyceum and Taming of the Shrew in Thursday.

Lion King was good, but not great imo. Wasn't a big fan of some of the extra scenes/songs they added to lengthen it for the theatre. Crowd (lots of tourists) were massively in to it, lots of whooping and cheering at the start/end/big moments.

Taming of the Shrew was really good. They gender swapped the roles, which was good as if they played it straight it has some very sexist and somewhat abusive content otherwise, which probably wouldn't 'play' too well in our modern culture! :o :o

Also off to see Magic Goes Wrong (can't wait - their plays are hilarious) and Mary Poppins in Feb.

What has anyone else seen or seeing soon?

Took my lad to see Lion King at the Lyceum a few years ago, and agree it wasn’t great. Took him to Matilda over Christmas hols and it was very good.

Hope to get to attend a lot of Beethoven concerts this year what with it the 250th anniversary of his birth

Was in Vienna just before Christmas and we got to Mozart's Don Giovanni
Awesome. My mum loves that kind of stuff, especially Beethoven I think. My gf actually was in Vienna a couple years ago. Didn't see any concerts whilst she was there, but did go to the museum and brought her home a nice CD. :)

we've been a few times to Vienna, the first time was days after 9/11 and we got the best seats in a virtually empty opera house

Havent been to the theatre for years, had an ex whose sister worked in the Everyman,so used to get tickets for any stage productions in the area,I tried watching ballet and opera and though I could admire the grace, movement, dedication etc they just were not my thing, there was one play that absolutely captivated me at the time but for the life of me I cant remember what it was called, there was only to actors in it and one of them had no more than 10 lines,so it was more of a monologue, the play was about a WW1 deserter and what led up to his execution by firing squad

I like this stuff but there isn't much to consume locally except the local symphony, which the Mrs Nigh likes so we go a few times a year. Last show they played Jonny Greenwood's music from "There Will Be Blood" and as a radiohead fan myself that was really interesting and I didn't realize how much was explicitly borrowed from these to create the sounds in "A Moon Shaped Pool", specifically in "Burn the Witch".
