When I was a kid, the only time there was alcohol in the house was that Christmas fortnight you had off school. Peanuts and liquorice all-sorts in bowls, a cylindrical carton of 100 JPS ciggies on the sideboard, tinsel around the wall mirror and a little trolley (known as "the cocktail cabinet" for some reason) laden with a bottle each of vodka, gin, Cinzano Bianco, Martini Rosso, Advocaat, and some mixers, plus cans of Long Life bitter and lager of some description and some soft drinks for mixing.
These days my folks are right pair of old soaks and whisky is their choice of tipple.
Anyway, we're going shopping today and will be getting the bulk of out Christmas booze in. Already taken delivery of a case of Spanish reds (though half of them have been polished off already) so today it's going to be:
Bottle of Talisker single malt
Bottle of fino sherry
Bottle of manzanilla sherry
Bottle of Oloroso sherry
Bottle of wodka (for Bloody Mary's)
Bottle of vermouth
A dozen or so assorted British bottled ales
(will stock up with cans of Żywiec lager from our local Polski Sklep nearer the time)
What's going into your booze shopping trolley?
