Well done Gideon Osborne, you chinless Bullingdon turd. Even before the savage cuts take their effect, consumer confidence was hit that much by the Tory/Lib Dem horror stories of cuts to come that the country fell back into negative growth again. GDP was expected to increase by 0.6% over the last three months...it actually decreased by 0.5%!!

FFS, will someone take these daft cunts out before they ruin us all?

A wonderfully objective post Dave.

The damage has already been done. This Government inherited huge debt and a massive budget deficit.

What should they do? Print some 'funny money' a la Gordon. Keep spending? Fortunately
they seem more interested in trying to reduce the deficit instead of buying votes.

As for the quarterly fall in GDP

What they needed to do was to address the deficit in a sensible non-hysterical way. I know that only £6B worth of cuts have been carried out so far and, therefore, the direct effect of cuts cant be pointed at to explain this alarming contraction, but the government austerity message has had the effect of destroying consumer confidence and with it the confidence of manufacturing industry and the service sector.

When are people going to start looking over their shoulder and blaming the Labour Government when these figures are an outcome of this Coailition Government?

Is that supposed to hide everything behind bad weather? Well that was taken into account by the Office of National Statistics who said that even taking the bad weather out of the equation as a factor causing contraction the economy would have been flat lining.

Surprised more people haven't commented on this...... Oh it's going to be a joy with this Government for the next 5 years

I dealt with that point above.

Oh, and by the way, you're banned for that tool remark. Sick of you.

One question Dave.
How would you sort out the economy?

Better than being led to oblivion with Labour b)

The economy was showing signs of recovery in the latter months of Labour. And the impact of Labour as a political party on the recession is desperately oversold by the Tories, as it was a worldwide recession stemming from the USA.

The Conservatives spin facts into falsehoods at will.

Davek, albeit in a forceful way, is completely right. The sheer depth of the cuts ahead have terrified people and the economy is in danger of plummeting.

It should certainly have been growth first, cuts later. Instead, it seems the Tories have operated on the theory that the economy will recover on it's own and completely ignore the cuts, which is sheer madness.

This government won't last longer than 2012 anyway. The LibDem core voter base will be in uproar once they see what they've climbed into bed with.

I'll answer that if I may; you approach the deficit once the country as a whole isn't in danger of a double dip recession. Common sense.

The cuts themselves aren't the problem, the timing and "cut by any means necessary" approach of the Tories in order to create smaller government due to ideology is.

I do love the uk's govt excuse. Weather. Absolute classic.

It is actually the reason for about 50% of the drop believe it or not. But not all of it.

The Tories have brewed the perfect storm for our economy.
