Just feeling nostalgic and wondered if there was any old pictures of this San Quentin. To think we paid 2 1/2 pence to go in there.

only seems to be 1 picture about & thats taken from tv footage

Looks like the enclosure pre main stand
Correct. You can see the brick of the old Main Stand. A grandiose stadium it was then. Ruined externally by the corrugated metal cladding now used all round the ground.

...it was awful in there. Awful. You could see the game if you sat on the barrier, but after 10mins your backside went numb and you had to jump off. What do us old fella's say - 'Youngsters today don't realise how lucky they are'.

Only went in a couple of times and don't have any recollection of watching the match. Seemed to spend more time looking into the crowd to try and find my bros.

It was like the chimps enclosure at Chester Zoo, quite dark and scary with kids climbing up the mesh and jumping on and off the barriers.

I went in there once as a young kid the high pitch chanting did my head in and it was a poor view as the kids climbed up the fencing - it was 2 & 1/2 p = the old 6p = 7 & 1/2p = 15p in the paddock - my older brother remembers the days when you could walk around to any end on the terraces!
