Now, I know i've missed a number out, because I counted wrong...

...I've disregarded Yellow Submarine because let's face it, it's not really a Beatles album and the best songs appeared on this one anyway...

However, even though many may not even count Magical Mystery Tour, it's included, so discuss it or i'm getting me dad to bang ya!

I personnally LOVE this album, big time. Strawberry Fields Forever was the first song that I ever loved as a wee sprog, and other classics like Fool on the Hill and especially Your Mother Should Know warm the cockles of my cold, cold heart.

Whadda you think?

Only a northern song - Hey bulldog - All together now ??? - notable songs - although Pepperland, sea of etc,etc were just filler.

As for MMT - Full of ground-breaking tunes and still a classic album/e.p or whatever.

Don't get me wrong, the first few songs on Yellow Submarine are all worthy tracks, it's just the fact that the second disc is just filled with Martin-inspired sh!te, hence why I don't really see it as a true Beatles record.

Yes, you're right Giraffe, I've made an IDIOTIC mistake by thinking this was after The White Album.

It shall be rectified, talk about this one for now ;].

It's strange how something as odd as Strawberry Fields Forever can be so fascinating to children. It seems too complex and impenetrable for children to wrestle with and yet I too have loved it since I was a toddler. Maybe it's because it is about childhood itself - a lost, dreamlike childhood, not always happy, just like childhood really is. And Lennon asks us so nicely to let him take us down and he seems so gentle that we actually trust him, so down we go.

I've always had a slight mistrust of Magical Mystery Tour, probably because I don't regard it as a proper Beatles album. True, it was released in the USA as an LP but over here it was just a six track EP for many years. That said, anything with Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane, not to mention I am the Walrus, is impossible to dismiss completely and I do find myself playing the album a lot these days without getting too up myself about the fact that it is a Beatles album with singles on it!

Ian McDonald talks about the feeling of endless possibility in 1966-67 and how the Beatles bestrode the cultural landscape like all-knowing gods. Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane seemed to lead the way in early '67 and Seargent Pepper could be heard drifting out of every open window in the summer. Everyone, but everyone, looked to the Fabs as lightning rods for a new force that was going to rewrite the very rules of society. By Christmas Day it was beginning to unravel. The Magical Mystery Tour TV programme was the first thing the Beatles did that completely bemused the public and the critics - almost gleefully - hated it.

Musically, though, it stands the test of time as a yardstick by which to measure pop greatness.
