What are your feelings regarding Bank Holidays? Welcome extra day off, or an inconvenience you could do without?

It's a no from me. I'm sure they were important at one time but just seem utterly pointless this day in age. Also something very Tory about them.

Its a free day off to either spend with your family or veg out with a hangover..or do whatever you want
Dont choose to be in work when you dont have to be.

Not just them that downs tools for the day though. Thought banking was a global, 24/7 enterprise these days anyway? Are the New York and Hong Kong wings of big banks taking the day off too?

It's not for a lot of people though! My point was that an imposed day off for the banks seems a bit old fashioned. Of course we all love a day off.

Would people rather have the Bank Holidays or a few extra days annual leave to be taken when they wish?

I used to work every bank holiday when I was at uni and it wasn't too bad, and got good money for them. But enjoy having them all off now. Easier to do social stuff when most of your mates are off. If it was all just annual leave it would be random at times like christmas. Wouldn't feel right having to go to the boss for Christmas Day/Boxing day off etc.

They've tried. During the war and such times. It turns out if you reduce rest and leisure time and make people keep working then productivity slumps.

Needless to say no-one has tried giving us a few more days off and seeing what further improvements that brings...

They might be adding a new one in October I heard a while ago. Who knows. The more the better.
