The Art Of Creative Football
This season has seen Everton play some of the most beautiful football they've played since the 80's. The kind of football that gets talked up in the press by the likes of Arsenal and Spurs. So, the question is what's in the water at Goodison Park? How have we gone from the 1-0 experts to trying to pick teams apart with a pure footballing masterclass. Playing silky balls across the park and looking great value for money on the entrance fee.

The answer is 4-5-1 the most commonly used defensive formation for keeping a team shut out is Everton's favourite formation for silkly football. Throw in 3 creative players in Arteta, Osman and Pienaar add a world class finisher up front then you have the ingredients for the sublime football Everton have played over the course of this season. All 3 creative influences at Goodison are the engine in this Everton side which can switch from a workman like defensive machine into a swift counter attacking flowing football side in a instant.
  • Mikel Arteta - Never loses the ball, always calm and composed on the ball can buy a free kick out of nothing, has an eye for a pass and can deliver set pieces with lethal accuracy.
  • Leon Osman - Has great feet, links up the play from midfield to attack and has a decent strike on him. When he's on form will bag you a few goals.
  • Steven Pienaar - Great engine, does not stop running, full of tricks and neat passes. does the basic stuff well and then builds on it with excellent crossing and forward thinking.
But if it wasn't for the most solid looking back four we've had for a good long while these three men would be unable to be given the free role that they are currently enjoying. Howard, Yobo, Lescott, Jagielka and even our those on our subs bench maintain a solid foundation that the creative engine can build on.

These players are not superstars they're not prima donna's they're hard working team players. Who celebrate every goal scored by anyone in a blue shirt regardless of who actually scored it. You can't point at any one player in a blue shirt and say "he is the reason why we are so successful this season." we have a great team ethic and its showing in our style of play.

Somehow, Moyes using a very defensive formation has got his side playing excellent counter attacking football and turned it into the catalyst to spark Everton into a free flowing attacking side that instead of sitting on a 1-0 lead they would go out and try and finish teams off. With the toffees still in europe and pushing for fourth spot in the league if David Moyes continues to build on the team that he's built we could have a a side worthy of the title the school of science.
