The simplest advice for the consoles is what you want from it.

If you want a pure games machine and nothing else bar a few shiney add ons then it is the PS4 all the way.

If you want a media centre that runs sky / skype and the like as well as plays games then its the Xbox 1.

If you are looking to just play some quality games and don't want to break the bank then the 360, the games can be picked up dirt cheap now.

On a personal level i am waiting for all the new games to come out before i buy one because i don't see the point in buying a 400 quid console to play games i can already on my current one. But then there are millions of others who feel differently right now :)

You can buy an XB360 (or PS3) + the top 20 games of the generation for half the cost of a new-gen machine, that will provide you with hundreds of hours of great gameplay. The best 360/PS3 game for their respective libraries at the moment pi$$ over anything currently available for next-gen.

I'm currently working my way through Mass Effect 3. Logged about 35 hours on it so far - a simply mindblowing game. Absolutely stunning.

Xbox one is doing better than I expected but I'm seeing zero PS4 on the shelves and many Xbox Ones in the stores now. This isn't Mega Drive (Genesis) vs. Super Nintendo where all the games are different. For these are 2 consoles that pretty much play the same games, I thought it was stupid to charge $100 more especially after the bad press they got (plus their consoles haven't been known for the reliabliity either). Now I know that the kinect is one of Microsoft's greatest pieces of tech that they ever created (there was stuff like it on the market but they were thousands of dollars). That being said who needs/wants a Kinect anyway?

Moral of the story, get ready for a price drop for the MS one sometime around march I'm guessing. And go on someplace like ebay and get a Xbox 360 instead. It will be 2-3 years before we start seeing true next gen games. Sony's and MS's launch titles don't look much better than Xbox 360/PS3 anyway.

Gonna fire up the kids 360 soon and have a go on Forza Horizons (£20 in asda), had a blast on Halo4 last night, Fifa14 & have been partnering the little un on Lego Harry Potty today. Kids just wanna play feckin Minecraft all the time though, which I don't like tbh as it's kinda living a life thats not real and I'd rather them stick to real life for now.

How does Xbox Live work ?

do we all have to have completely separate accounts, or can we make an account (for the console) with different profiles ? I understand that we all have to have our own Gold Membership now and theres not even a family membership option, but do we ALL have to have completely separate accounts ? as I believe it will do updates ? so does that mean we all have to get the updates separately ? main thing being I wish to have our current squad and get rid of the hairy one.

you have seperate xbox live accounts, we've got 4 but only mine has xbox live, my kids just play all the lego games. If the console or game updates I think that carries for every profile...

Made an xboxlive account last night, sorted my gamertag........

How do i do the kids ones now though ? cos they dont have their own Microsoft Accounts, and when I enter the email I used for mine it says that email is already used for another account, they dont have msoft accounts as dont have a pc or anything with windows.

Proper confusing me this & cant find any info that relates to how to do it, seems daft that each and every user would need a totally separate account.

in its current state (with the games released) the xbox one is a minor upgrade over the 360, games still don't run at 1080p with proper AA... pretty pathetic for a next gen console.

they said that games on it are basically gong to be like running pc games at high, well thats the biggest load of BS ever. comparing pc and xbox one versions of BF4 side by side and the PC version looks way better than the xbox one version even with the settings set to low and medium.

at least when the 360 came out it was reasonably close to providing high end pc visuals, the leap from standard res to HD was huge as well even if it was only 720p.... this generation has no big leap at all, games on it already look badly dated

here's hoping AMD's Mantel technology helps them get more performance out of it...

Just use the one account. Don't bother forking out money for each kid to have a gold membership, just one will do you.
