Not sure if anyone else has notice, and I don't have figures to prove it, but we seem to let a lot of goals in from 40 minutes (five minutes before half time) and 50 minuts (five minutes after the break).

Generally, I now say that if we don't concede around those times we'll have a good result. But it bemuses me that we should conced so many goals around those times.

If we don't concede around these times on Sunday, we'll have a good result.

interesting enough, take a look at this:ESPNsoccernet - Everton Statistics

its broken down differently, but you're right that the time right after halftime seems problematic, as we've scored 2 goals and conceeded 5.

also, if the stats lined up the way you described, where 40 to 50 minutes was one section, my guess is it would also appear poorly

honestly though, i think a lot of that might be coincidence, rather than the team not coming out of halftime ready to go

I read them stats as this.

We start both halves poorly...

Just 1 goal scored in 1st 15 minutes, just 2 scored 46-60 minutes. Conceding 5 in the 1st 15 minutes of the 2nd half. It seems to me they clearly aren't motivated enough and it takes something on the pitch to spark them rather than the managers team talks.

What catches my eye is the player stats for MATCHES PLAYED/shots/shots on goal/goals

Yakubu - played 14, made 34 shots of which 14 on target scored 4

Osman 14, 25, 8, 3

Saha 6 (+5 came on as sub), 23, 8, 3

Fellaini 11, 19, 6, 3

Now as we all know statistics are traditionally used in the same manner as a drunk uses lamp posts - for support, rather than for illumination.
But as I don't have an axe to gring concerning any of these players I'll contınue and suggest that from these figures we can deduce:

We might not be missing Yak as much as we thought

Ossie really is grossly underrated

Saha and Fellaini were good business

but as the goals conceded stats show we do still desperately need a new Carseley

One of the more incredible stats I saw this year was that in a run of three matches, we had led a total of ten minutes and won all three.

Someone commented at the time that if all matches ended at minute 80, Everton at the time would have been in the relegation zone.
