Right @Bishop Thumpety-Thump and @Sinski the season proper, starts in less than a month. Carlton had a nice win over Essendon in a practice game. Believe me anytime the detested bombers are beaten is a good day! Anyway hopefully the blues get a long overdue win over Richmond in round one, and then we'll take it from there. The club is now debt free, they now have a record high membership, so it's high time that the results start showing on the field.

As for Collingwood things have been a bit chaotic, there was this report into supposed institutionalized racism, and Eddie McGuire was forced to step down as president. Im not sure what to make of that. I actually think Eddie is not as bad a bloke as people make him out to be. Not all pies supporter's are racists either. So that's my thoughts on the subject. But how will they get on this year, im not so sure. I will say though that a written off Collingwood is always dangerous.

Should this be Nathan Buckleys final season? I think overall Bucks record as coach is a bit mixed. He was handed a premiership winning list, and pretty much took a sledge hammer to it. But anyway i would imagine Richmond Geelong and West Coast Eagles will be in the mix. You have Brisbane Port Adelaide St Kilda and perhaps Carlton as well. The wooden spoon will probably be between North Melbourne Adelaide Crows and the Sydney Swans. Perhaps Essendon might be contenders for it as well?:) lol

RIP Murray Weideman

Murray was stand in captain for Collingwoods 1958 premiership win over Melbourne. The regular captain Frank Tuck was injured. I'd say that was the pies, greatest ever flag win. Melbourne were going for the 4 in a row. But the pies stopped them in their tracks, and the record of the Collingwood sides of 1927-1930 was preserved. Carlton and Essendon of course jointly have the most premierships with 16. Collingwood are just behind them with 15, but the pies are the only vfl/afl team in history to win 4 premierships in a row.

Thanks for the tag. ;)

The pies are hard to pick this season after setting fire to the squad in the trade period. Out first practice match has just started now against the cats so see how that goes. I have not followed much of the off season of other clubs so cannot comment on them though it does look like the roos are in trouble. Your Blues do have a chance for finals but they have to find a way to maintain their form when they find it.

Are you happy or sad that Eddie was forced to resign? Joffa seems pretty upset about it on facebook. I read Joffas book and he spoke a lot about his friendship with Eddie. So i can understand why he would be upset. I suppose overall he was a good president, but i think forcing Malthouse out of the club was a mistake. I think that decision stopped Collingwood from building on that 2010 flag win.

Thats a hard one because when he came in the club was in chaos and losing money every season and was broke. He changed all the to the point where we won the flag in 2010. I think the Malthouse/Buckley thing was poorly handled and the last few years have not been that great although we should have won against the Eagles a couple of years ago. I actually think it was time for a change anyway and it was right that he went now for whatever reason. Probably should have handed over the reigns a year or so ago.

Great day for Carlton this was. For a late September spring day, it was unusually hot in Melbourne. I think it was the hottest day on record for a grand final. That goal by the late Mark Naley, was when i think everyone knew that Carlton had it won. Des English and Peter Motley would probably have been on the team, if it wasn't for the fact that Des was recovering from cancer, and Peter had a miraculous recovery, from a nasty car crash that finished his playing career. There was just one more grand final win after that in 1995. Parallels with Everton there i think. 1987 and 1995 were both clubs two most recent trophy winning seasons.

That was a good win by the Blues that day considering how good the Hawks were then.

7 grand finals in a row that Hawks side played in, and they were back in 1991 to win another premiership. It's between the Hawthorn side of the 80's, Melbourne in the 50's and Collingwood in the late 20's, for the title of greatest dynasty in the afl.

@cronullasharks I notice that there is bit of a rivalry, between Australias two main sports codes. Why is that so? Is it not possible to enjoy both both aussie rules footy and rugby league? In Sydney you have two afl sides, the Sydney Swans and the Greater Western Sydney Giants. The Swans won two premierships in 2005 and 2012, and the Giants were in a grand final two years ago. Obviously i'm aware that New South Wales and Queensland are rugby league territory, but did you ever go to any afl game involving the two teams in Sydney? Have you ever made an attempt to get into the sport, or have you always been apathetic about it?

Never been interested in it mate, I live in NSW so grew up with rugby league, same with the AFL states they're not interested in rugby league in general despite the success of Melbourne Storm. The AFL is doing a better job trying to get it more mainstream in NSW and QLD I do have to admit.

I love playing in Carltons grand final every year, says Richmonds Shane Edwards. Hmm that Richmond mob were a joke for 30 years, before they finally came good. Not to mention the fact the Blues have won three more premierships!

But the facts are that Carlton last did anything of note back in 2000, so it's up to the players to win back that respect. We haven't beaten Richmond, since that elimination final in 2013. So hopefully that will be put right on Thursday night! They are a good side Richmond, but they aren't as good as the Geelong side from 2007 to 2011, and the three in a row 2013 to 2015 Hawthorn side in my opinion.

A reminder for any Essendon fans here, that it's been 6,037 days since the bombers last won a finals game.:p Essendon of course are probably the second most horrible club on the planet, right after the rs! lol
