Just thought i'd start a thread about this as it's the only footie action over the summer months and is a decent-ish watch.
It's a bit like Brazil getting a practice go for the World Cup next year. The one on South Africa the year before the last world cup was pretty good if I remember rightly.

So who is in it?

Brazil (hosts)
Uruguay
Mexico
Spain
Italy
Nigeria
Japan

and

wait for it

Tahiti (FFS!)

There are two groups and then two teams at the top go through to the knock outs. Standard format really.

Group A
Brazil
Japan
Italy
Mexico

Looks Tasty.

Group B
Spain
Nigeria
Uruguay
Tahiti

We can only hope that some non-league Tahiti player snaps Suarez in half here.

Personally looking forward to seeing some of the Brazilian stadiums before the big event in 2014.

This tournament will also use goal line technology.

Anyway, here it is. Kicks of June 15th.

Chat about it now, or later, whatever.

I wonder how many GOTers would get a game for Tahiti. In all seriousness I reckon there'd be at least a couple.

Yeah it's basically a friendly tournament. A practice world cup to see how the logistics cope.

Tahiti are in it because new zealand failed to win the OFC cup despite being basically the only team in it to be able to afford boots.

This distressed FIFA to the extent that they quickly changed the rules so that new zealand rather than tahiti represent the OFC in the world cup play off. Just to avoid embarassment.

I think we'll be Tahiti fans in the summer!

dear mr ijjy, can you please explain to me what the confederations cup is and more importantly what the point of it is? also why arent everton or england in it? and who do you suggest i support as i generally support everton or england, thanks..

I like the confederations tournament. Gives us a heads up on the new stadiums and provides some footy we can just watch for a laugh without the pain and anxiety of an Everton fixture.

*Checks for Tahitian ancestry

I think it will be a great tournament and will be watching it in the absence of a more well known tournament.
Always hate the "odd" years but this may just soften the blow of a long summer without soccer!

How boss was the Tournoi de France!? Well the Roberto Carlos free kick was boss, think England won it too.

I thought Tahiti was something you add to chickpeas and olive oil to make houmous.
