That was close!

altidore is a great striker, just not for the english league.

Every time i see him outside hull and sunderland the lad is fantastic in what he does. i dont even think its down to who bought him as he missed some terrible shots in his time here. just perhaps a happyness thing, he is happy in america or spain so he scores and muscles people like an aki whereas sunderland was not where he wanted to be.

His record in spain was just as bad as england. 2 goals in 3 years there.

Also failed in turkey, 1 goal in 12 games there.

It's literally just holland and the us where he's done well.

LOL @ Americans for thinking he's a good footballer for scoring against the likes of Cuba, El Salvador, Panama and Jamaica. I'd score 10 a game against those no marks.

Makes sense that he struggled in both England and Spain, two of the best three leagues in the world. The struggling in Turkey always confused me. Small sample size?

The one thing about MLS is that it's a very offensive-centric league. You got low wages overall, except for designated player slots, which are limited so the players you use for those must be good AND marketable. Most DP's are strikers, attacking midfielers, or USMNT members. Very few big name defensive players.

My assessment would be that Altidore's game relies too much on overpowering defenders, and that plan falls apart quickly when you start playing against the best in the world.
