Hello
Thanks to the Grand Old Team for welcoming me.
I'm a Manchester City supporter with an affinity for Everton having an Evertonian mate since my Uni days back in the 80s.
Everton it's a club I'm very familiar with. It's been a love-hate rivalry which has mellowed in recent years, I suppose. Most Evertonians I've met are sound like any club including ours.
City have so much in common with Everton even if we don't always see it! I've been to Goodison many times as an away fan and a few times with my mate. I hope to get there again before your new ground is built to hear that spine-tingling Z-Cars and the roar that follows ("Come on City!"). Plus I've promised my Derby supporting son a trip to Goodison for a match to experience the atmosphere. I hope we can get there when it's allowed because it is special.
If City can't win the title this season, I hope Everton do for a host of reasons. For my good friend, to see your neighbour's faces. Also your club didn't stab ours in the back when 9 others did.
Everton had a great side in the 80s that had everything. I might not have liked them back then but knew how good they were. Southall, Sharpe Sheedy, Stevens Ratcliffe, Reid, Bracewell were all great players (Peter Reid particularly was crucial in keeping City up in 89-90 when he was getting old and grey!) It was sad that they didn't get to play in The European Cup and I'm not alone in being sure that they would have won it in 86.
I'm sure our rivalry will be much more civilised than the one with your vile neighbours.
Best wishes
Phil B
