Anybody on here had any issues with Tendonitis?

Woke up on Monday morning and thought i'd broken my toe - Been to the doctors and they say it's tendonitis but by christ it hurts to walk!

Had tendonitis in my bicep from overtraining, took about 6 months to get over it.

Yes I have. Take two aspirins morning and night for three days and see if it makes a difference. If so, donate £10 to a charity of your choice.

Suffered it off and on for years in my left Achilles from running in the wrong shoes on hard surfaces.

Takes about 10 - 14 days to go.

Ibuprofen every 4 hours for a week or so deffo helps and wear cushioned shoes / trainees if poss.

It never stops me running, just slows me down and reduces my distances

You can also get toe supports off the likes of eBay

Cheers mucker - Whereabouts did you have it? Was it extremely painful?
Tennis elbow and I had it for months until I met a medic at a party who suggested the above.

Doctors now don't usually prescribe Aspirins these days because of the stomach thing but I've always found them more effective than paracetemol or ibuprofen which you may as well flush down the pan for my money.

Where’s the pain exactly? Big toe joint area? Is the joint red or swollen? Any unusual activity day or two before? Any other joints affected? Any pre-existing problems with affected foot like a bunion for example?

Well hello Dr Lineker

Yep, its the joint of the big toe - It's a little red but not particularly swollen. I do run three times a week but had no pain at all the night before it flared up. No other joints affected and no pre-existing problems

Haha, not trying to play doctor! My father in law was repeatedly told he had tendinitis in his toe but eventually found out it was gout! And no you don’t have to be daring port in huge quantities to get gout! Think tendinitis is a bit of an easy way to explain toe pain when really all sorts of conditions lead to problems in that area! My advice is anti-inflammatory meds as already suggested but if it persists or recurs get a second opinion!

I appreciate the advice friend - You've already asked me more questions and been more useful than my actual doctor! I did worry about gout and did mention it as a possibility by they brushed it off

How does your father deal with the gout?

I have it at random places in my body all the bleeding time. So bad the missus is fed up of hearing the groans and complaints.

Ibuprofen helps but it takes time to build up and have an effect. I sometimes have terrible feet and really hobble like an old man especially in the mornings. Traced it to knotted muscles in the calf which were shortened and irritating the tendons lower down. Painful self massage of the knots followed by regular stretching is the answer.
Same problem in my shoulder caused by knots in my back. Currently tennis elbow with knots in my biceps and wrist.

What I'd like to find out is what's causing my muscles to cramp up like this. Never get muscle pain so it took ages to find they were the cause. Lack of Mg in the diet is aparrently one suspect.

There’s a specific anti-inflammatory that’s prescribed for gout, once the diagnosis is confirmed. It’s not a tablet you see prescribed for anything else. That works brilliantly to relieve the pain. If it recurs then you’re prescribed a preventative tablet that you have to take long-term. My father in law is on the preventative tablet and not had any problems since starting on it.

The foot actually has the most complex anatomy after the brain...probably explains why so many foot problems are misdiagnosed or diagnosed late. The fact yours is so painful got me immediately thinking about a joint problem like gout or even a nerve related problem (you can get painful knots of nerve tissue anywhere on the sole of the foot which are exquisitely painful!). If you’re a regular runner, should also keep in mind bony issues like a stress fracture,,,

Hope it clears up soon and fully, mate.
