Player Valuation: £10m
Bored in work and FA happening on the transfer front....

Which team would win? (Both 4-4-2)

Martyn

Coleman Jagielka Gough Baines

Kanchelskis Arteta Parkinson Speed

Rooney Ferguson

Southall

Steven Mountfield Ratcliffe Van Den Hauwe

Stevens Reid Bracewell Sheedy

Sharp Lineker

Either way there is only one outcome in this, the 80's side would smash the rest of the relegation fighting, cup choking bottlers.

*quickly scrambles to check who played in the 95 final

I'll admit the Steven/Stevens typo, nothing revolutionary there lol.
No chance I would have Stones over Jagielka though, no chance. Jags at his peak??? Not having it.

Speed over Pienaar all day. Although maybe Speed in centre mid, with Bainaar on the left. Thought Parky in there against Reid and Bracewell would be a must though!

Ok fair enough, Lukaku and a 18-year old Rooney would be immense.

tough match up actually

I'd put in Speed into CM to replace Parkinson and Pienaar on the left
I'd even prefer Lescott, Distin to Gough..he didnt do much for us?
Lukaku for Ferguson surely! Loads of Goals!
We haven't had any great defensive midfielders in the PL era , have we?

Oh but the 80s team would win i think...5-3

The PL team would be (for me)
Southall

Coleman
Jagielka
Watson
Baines

Parkinson

Kanchelskis
Cahill
Arteta

Rooney

Lukaku

The 80s team would win but I think it would be a decent game. You have 25 years worth of players versus 3 glorious years.

For me Baines would be very close to getting a spot. Southall remained a top keeper though was at his peak in the mid to late 80s. Kanchelskis v Stevens is another interesting question.

Who'd partner Reid would also be up for debate. Maybe I'd have Parkinson in there ahead of Bracewell.

Likewise a case could be made for Rooney or Cahill to play up too with Lineker.

The 80s side was more than the some of its parts. You had to have character to play in it. I believe lads like Cahill, Rooney or Parkinson could have done that. Just my view of course.

Two good teams, very even. Probably the team that has the peerless leadership qualities of Capt Jags has the edge though.
