I was talking about this months ago - check the vaults. ref: Portsmouth high court and tax settlements and Everton.

Don't think we'll be one. Think this was the major trigger for the mass sell off including Arteta. Since Arteta would be missing out on a higher % of his wages from us.

So this is why there was this "pay cut" not to pay cut - when he went to Arsenal.

Reckon we'd of already settled with HMRC last financial year.

Its actually HMRC won a ruling in 2010 by a high court judge agreeing Portsmouth did owe an additional Â£13 million - that some clubs were paying "image rights fees" to player "EBTs" offshore thereby AVOIDING a higher rate of income tax

which is what that Â£13million relates to in PAYE non payments.

The clubs were liable as they were the ones who should of been paying it via PAYE.

Can't really see it. Who has image rights in their contract? Our merchandising is so poor we couldn't owe more than a few bob.

Thats the point of the HMRC.

How can some of these clubs justify paying more than 15% when certain players have virtually no status in image rights terms abroad.

I am clearly not keeping up and CBA to either really. Are you sayin that contracts are paying 15% of salary as image rights overseas. HMRC are right. Book 'em Danno.

No mate. Some have been paying up to 50% of the wages in this way.

Thereby evading the 50% tax rate on income tax on 50% of their - effective - salaries.

The clubs are involved in agreeing to do that since they don't have to pay NI or PAYE contributions etc hence why they were found liable in the Portsmouth high court case.

Basically some of these clubs are avoiding paying corporation tax by always making a book loss. They're then trying to minimise any taxes on income to a excessive level - basically with a scam

Where many of these players aren't even significant enough to have any sort of major image rights.
