Talks around the idea of an "Atlantic League"

I'm sure Sky and the rest will be falling all over themselves for the rights to beam this worldwide.

You've seen the proposed leagues right? Poor quality. No/Few away fans. No chance this will have legs and even if it does no-one's going to be switching off la Liga for the prospect of watching the St Johnson V Randers or Willem II V AIK.

Celtic Vs a couple of dutch teams is the only remotely interesting clash available there

No, no, no, a million times no!
Another way of milking football and ruining the sport by overpaying mercenaries and agents and wondering where the passion went.

My comment was meant to be sarcastic. Maybe I should have made it more obvious.

I'm not sure on the idea, but I can empathise with their idea. After all, it's been 20 years since Ajax won the Champions League, and there hasn't been much disruption of the 'big four' leagues since then, with just a solitary win from Porto in that time. Compare that to the preceding 20 years, when you had teams like PSV, Red Star, Marseille, Steaua Bucharest winning the title, and the likes of Malmo, Brugge, Benfica and Saint-Etienne reaching finals.

Suffice to say, this league may do nothing to give teams from these leagues any more chance of reaching the latter stages of major competitions, but it's a sad time when clubs with such rich histories are resigned to almost feeder status to the giants.

What they're proposing is essentially an even narrower Europa League, given that's where most of the lesser league winners wind up. Perhaps they should just take that a bit more seriously?
