The average position diagram shows how Coleman is left with an awful lot to do to generate the attack down the flank without overlap from Neville. I suppose that's both the strength and weakness of that flank combination: we're solid but mostly (apart from when Coleman gets the bit between his teeth on occasion) a blunt attacking force down the right.

He's terribly green though. We all like to see a player take another player on, but he does it EVERY time. A pass or a cross would have been far more effective most of the time. Nobody doubts his talent, but his decision making is poor at the moment.

Still remains one of the few bright sparks of this miserable season.

I dont know. I think he's shown he can pick out a pass in the area - not yesterday, but other games. His crossing was poor yesterday - lofted in with no pace. He was the catalyst for the better second half perfornace, though, and he's just about the only player that can get the crowd into the game at the moment.

This isn't the first graph I've seen like this that suggests we could drop a defender for another midfielder possibly? We can't feed the ball through to Cahill/Saha because one of them is always double marked or covered, while we (in theory) have a defender with his hands in his pockets.
I know real football doesn't quite work like a diagram or a game, but if we had another attacking midfielder in there to beat his man and fit into the hole created between strikers and midfielders, then we'd see more forward momentum instead of it always having to go sideways.
It'd be risky playing 3-5-2, but against teams who want to park the bus, we need to have more options.

He wins a one-on-one about 80-90% of the time. Problem is after he gets through he keeps going and tries to take on a double team and is easily dispossessed. Its exciting and I'm glad he's on the pitch but there is still alot of rawness and immaturity in his game. He has to learn to change things up once in a while like Baines does and it will probably take a year or 2 like it did for other talented young players. He has to learn if 2 men are taking you on then someone is open. You need more than one move in the prem.
