Any guys or girls anyone interested in table tennis?

I run a club in Southport and we are always on the lookout for new players whether they are beginners or experienced players.

The season ends at the end of April and then we will be having practice sessions open to both members and non members.

Anyone interested please get in touch.

Happy to host a general discussion on table tennis too.
Did you know that the National Championships were held over the weekend a Rhys Davies a 17 year old from Southport came 3rd in the England men's Under 21 competition and will now be ranked in the top 15 senior men in England. A great feat. I'm delighted to say he's thrashed me in the past - I'm clearly in good company!

Ping Pong ?
A different game but a very skillful one.
Ping pong is played with hard bats.
Table tennis is played with sponge bats.
Somewhat confusingly you can play in the table tennis league with a hard ( ping pong ) bat - I can think of one very highly skilled player in my league who does - but you are at a massive disadvantage when it comes to imparting speed and spin.

I played many years ago in a local league for my youth club (I was 15), we went to the local university to play a match and I drew a young Chinese lady, I’ve never seen a pair of hands move so quick in my whole life , she absolutely destroyed me ?? that’s when I retired

In 1952 in Leeds, I was a junior member of the Victoria Club. They had two International players in Brian Kennedy and Kathy Best and the club coach was also the England coach. I played every night (apart from football training nights - football always took priority). Then I went in to do my National Service in Singapore and Malaya. They don't have table tennis tables in the jungle! After demob, I was seriously into my football so hardly ever played table tennis again.

Favourite sport growing up.. represented my province at junior level… my young self laughs at my feable playing these days.
Yes that's a problem. I started playing at the age of 11 and got to a a very good level playing for my County and being England ranked.

However I gave up playing in my early 20s to concentrate on my career and took it up again 30 years later.

It was really hard to comeback but with a bit of perseverance I was able to get back to a decent standard and play competitively.

Table tennis is a brilliant game for mental and physical fitness whatever your age and ability level.

I loved playing table tennis at school! I also live in Southport.. hmmmm

Can it be a casual membership or do you play in leagues?
At present all our members play in one of the 4 divisions in the Southport league ranging from elite players to beginners.
However from May onwards we will be introducing a social membership for players who want to play but not play competitively in the league.

I played in the Liverpool Business Houses Division 1, and when I moved to Norwich I got as high as Premier B. My son was a far better player than me, playing in Premier A, and playing National League a couple of times for Foxwood. He was a County player, and in his last year of Juniors he was ranked in the top 10 in England. He was good, but lacked the 'Street fighter, b*stard' attitude needed to take him higher.

I retired from playing around the age of 50, when the service changed from 5 per player to 2. A lot of people I knew walked away from the game at that point.

In terms of speed, table tennis reaction time to an opponent's shot/service is, I believe, the fastest required in any racquet sport (and before anyone piles in and says 'it's a table tennis bat', it's not, it's a table tennis racquet!).
