Switching Energy Suppliers - Bulb?

Had a letter this week that Scottish Power are putting up prices and still aren't rolling out smart meters to our area which is annoying as we're on pre-paid and have to keep going the shop to top up. So I've decided to switch and like the look of Bulb who are pretty established now and have some rave reviews.

Anyone with them? What are they like and if you wanna PM me your referral code for the £50 credit for both of us that'll be a help!

Or is anyone with another small power company who are any good? Smart prepay being available would be a big advantage.

never heard of them.

we dont have a smart meter in fact we refused to have 1, but we dont have to top up we have a normal meter & choose fixed price tariffs to get better rates, I suspect that you get a rubbish rate cos you're on a prepay meter.

Yup - We rent though so a prepay is the landlords choice which is understandable given the headaches it can cause when a tenant just ups and does one.

The Bulb, no I've never heard of them either perhaps someone else could shed a little light on them?.........

ask scottish power for a better rate on it, maybe if you offer to put some extra in credit on it but I'd imagine that being a prepay will mean you are always on a rubbish rate.
Is it possible I wonder for the landlord to set the rate ? above the s.p. rate obv.

either way you could probably be paying more rent without a prepay & it be cheaper.

"You have the right to switch supplier if you pay your energy supplier directly for your gas or electricity. This includes if you have a prepayment meter.
You should check your tenancy agreement to see if the landlord has a ‘preferred supplier’. This won’t stop you from switching supplier, but you should tell your landlord or letting agent."

"Your landlord can’t stop you replacing a prepayment meter with a normal meter that lets you pay after using energy rather than in advance. You don’t need your landlord’s permission to do this."

"If you install or remove prepayment meters, you might have to put the original meters back at the end of your tenancy. This is because the change will count as an alteration to the property. You'll have to pay any fee your energy supplier charges for changing the meters back.
Most people's suppliers don’t charge a fee for installing or removing meters. If yours does, think about switching supplier. Or tell your current supplier you’ll switch to another one - they might remove the fee if you stay with them."

As you say I'm free to change suppliers and the letting agent has said that the landlord has no objection to, and would welcome, the installation of a new smart meter. Though slightly more expensive I would prefer to stay on prepayment as it's one less bill and a little easier all round when we decide to move on.

Only use renewable energy apparently and their customer service has some very good reviews. I'd like to get away from the Big 6 and they'll work out a lot cheaper for us. Their new smart meters are apparently in the Beta process but I imagine they'll be keen to put right any issues as they're still seeking to establish themselves.

I switch a few months back to Bulb. Excellent they are, and there's a £50 credit available to you when you sign up with them. (I have a link if you want it)

apparently smart meters are supplier specific & if you then change supplier the 'smart functions' dont work.

You are also of course putting the fella who reads your meters out of work, the reader for the meters is put on the bin waggon when it comes round & they read your meter that way. 1 that came to ours told me that 18 months or something after they started the meters he has lost the equivalent of about a weeks work per month, which of course means a weeks wage per month as well.

You might as well just vote Tory & have done with it.
