Barclays have finally done my nut after 20 years of terrible service. Anyone got any recommendations for switching current accounts and has anyone done this recently. I know a few do opening offers.

Not sure if they do any offers but I switched to Nationwide from TSB. It was a completely seamless transition. Customer Service whenever needed has been good. Only been with them for about 3 years but have no complaints so far.

Yeah I was looking at nationwide. Was also thinking of taking a ethical hipster option like that Triodos.

Nationwide have been excellent on our joint account. If you are favouring them find a friend who has an account to recommend you and you get £100 each. Happy to do this myself but I'm sure you'll find family/friends who can do it.

I used first direct for a few years. Couldn't fault them. They also gave me £100 for joining - youd need to check to see if this is the case.

I only dismissed their services after I quit work because they charge a monthly sum if there are no wages going in .... in the way british establishments freely RIP off the poor.

Santander current account offer 1.5% on the first 20k in their current account, plus a small % on each direct debit. Have had no trouble with employing them at £5 a month.

Switched from NatWest to Smile (online bank of the co-op), great move and not had any problems at all. Paying anything into the account I do at the local post office.

It was very easy for me to do. Went from HSBC to Santander 123 about 7 years ago.

Mind you I kept open my HSBC account for dealing with the tax man and as a separate account to deal with some side business so to keep it away from my personal account so I could pay off my self assessment and not have to worry come January 31st that I was without the money to do so.

I also opened a Halifax and TSB account and set up standing orders and direct debits on them to take advantage of better interests and monthly rewards schemes with them - not a great deal of money but in the long run it made hundreds for a few hours work long ago - though those TSB swines shut my account down and froze the funds which I suspect was due to me 'milking' the interest without really using the account as a day to day one because there were a lot of similar complaints at the time. Took me a week to unfreeze it- the sh**s.

Same, was with Barclays for 18 years, closed the local branch, so we moved to Santander, no cash offer, but deal were they give you a small percentage of your bills, worth about £26 a month. Plus there is a saver account that you can both use, they said its worth £65 each a year, though yet to find that out.
