I've never competed, or worn a swim suit for that matter. My freestyle and back stroke technique is passable, but breast stroke (awaiting puns) is awful and I think if I tried butterfly they'd pull me out thinking I was suffering some sort of seizure.

Haven't swam properly, as in competed with my old team, for a few years but I've had to get back into it to teach my baby niece now. Let me tell you, it's not as easy being in a swim suit nowadays!
