Surfing (the ocean not the internet)

Nowhere exotic for me - holidays in North Cornwall - Polzeath and Newquay. Both good places to learn to surf and loads of fun body boarding.

Closer to home - Hells Mouth beach, just outside Abersoch in North Wales. Waves are a bit hit and miss there but brilliant when they're big - undertow a bit scary at times !

Went to Kynance Cove on my hols in Cornwall last summer. Top bodyboarding but deathly with all the rocks under the surface!

Progressed from Skateboarding when a couple of mates got summer jobs in Newquay and I went down and joined them. The second summer I stayed down there for 2 months and actually got half decent at it and nearly decided to stay in Cornwall rather than go back to Uni.

I've surfed all round the UK, in France, Eire, Portugal, Fuertaventura and the Caribbean. Truth be told, I'm pretty rubbish these days, which is what happens when you hardly ever go, but once the kids are done with school I hope to move somewhere I can surf every day. It can be incredibly frustrating, hugely challenging (physically) and at times scary but it is amazing fun and a great feeling when you get a good ride, especially as they're so hard earned these days.

Cheap too. Once you've got your gear that's it. All you need is a board and a wetsuit and away you go.

The cost of fuel to get to the beach is the main outlay these days but with family and work and Everton I really don't go very often at the moment.

Grew up, and still live in, Melbourne Beach, FL (Google "Sebastian Inlet"). I spent my entire life in the water! I'll assume you're in Washington by your user name. I've heard there's a big community of surfers up there, and in the Vancouver area. I've met some of them while doing our yearly Costa Rica / Dominican Republic trips. Welcome, man!
Western Australia, not washington. Isn't it too cold to surf in Canada?

 I should have known Western Australia! It is too cold for me. I surfed up in Nova Scotia during the winter a few years ago. It was absolutely freezing, but it was going off. That being said, I do have friends that grew up in Canada and the NE/NW US, and they'll surf all winter. I grew up wearing a wetsuit maybe three times a year, so all the gear for cold water surf is way too much for me. I feel like I'm being suffocated!

When I am in the surf hitting monster waves I always shout Yahoo. The salt water irritates my eyes so I wear my Googles. Don't believe me? Ask Jeeves, he is my butler.
