Surfing ‍♂️

After spending the last 2 weeks in st ives I had some surfing lessons And really enjoyed it apart from swollowing sea water ever 10 minutes and aching like [Poor language removed] the next day, has anyone else tried it? I also realised the next day my back and knee aren’t really cut out for it but definitely want to try it again
Done quite a bit last summer, I didn’t dislike it but wouldn’t say I would ever take it up as a hobby. Getting thrown around for 2 hours and feeling like I’ve been on a full cycle in a washing machine isn’t my favourite idea for fun and the aches and pains the day after served to remind me I’m the wrong side of 40 these days.

Where in North Cornwall mate? When I lived on Merseyside we spent every summer from the year I was born (1969) until I was 25 (when I moved away) in a lovely town called Bude on the north Cornish coast. Surfing is fantastic there! Been back there quite a few times with my new family too, even though we live in Alaska now! Love body boarding, as do my two sons.

Been to Bude loads mate, but we always stay at a place called Polzeath.

The surf there isn’t the biggest, but it’s pretty consistent and the beach and water is very safe for the kids.

I’d move there tomorrow, as it’s got the lot for me, but my missus is a city girl, shops, nights out etc.

How did you end up in Alaska !!!

I tried that too a few days later but I felt slightly disappointed after the surfing, I also got stung by a weaver fish which killed the experience abit lol

They`re nasty little things those Weaver fish.

I was on holiday years ago, camping on a beach site on the Costa Brava, which was pretty remote and a lad stood on one.

Over the course of the day his foot blew up like a balloon and with the nearest hosy being a long way away, his dad ( ex forces ) decided to take a drastic course of action.

He gave him a load of vodka and then four people held him down, whilst his old man sliced his foot open and drained his lads foot of puss.

That wasn`t the worst bit, the worst bit was once his foot had been drained, they poured salt onto the wound to sterilise it and aid healing.

I`ll never forget those screams when the salt went onto the wound

Rule number one, if there`s any mention of Weaver Fish, put something on your feet when you`re in the sea.
