After spending the last 2 weeks in st ives I had some surfing lessons And really enjoyed it apart from swollowing sea water ever 10 minutes and aching like [Poor language removed] the next day, has anyone else tried it? I also realised the next day my back and knee aren’t really cut out for it but definitely want to try it again

Have you ever seen the film Point break mate?

I'm as good as all those kids in that film, probably better.

Never tried it tbh, never gonna try it but I do like looking at some stills that are captured by photographers. Some amazing images, I think a book came out about a certain photographer who had to gain the trust of the surfers over a number of years. Can't remember his name but seemed like it would be a great read as well as having some amazing pics (the article posted a couple of them)

If you’re not cut out for surfing, I’d go for the next best thing - body boarding.

We’ve been going to North Cornwall for years and years and go body boarding most days.

Easier, less hassle and not as tough on the body.

Don’t buy a cheap board, as it’s a false economy- they flex and snap.

You can work out the best board for you by your weight to board length ratio.

I tried that too a few days later but I felt slightly disappointed after the surfing, I also got stung by a weaver fish which killed the experience abit lol

Where in North Cornwall mate? When I lived on Merseyside we spent every summer from the year I was born (1969) until I was 25 (when I moved away) in a lovely town called Bude on the north Cornish coast. Surfing is fantastic there! Been back there quite a few times with my new family too, even though we live in Alaska now! Love body boarding, as do my two sons.
