I never really understood this logic. I hear it all the time when I'm in the US and its becoming quite common over here in the UK as well. It just seems a bit mindless to me.
I dont understand why the public should be expected to support our troops without question.
If its a world war situation like WW2 or whatever then fair enough i will support them and give them great respect. They are defending my country from invaders and a genuine threat to our lives, respect is due without a shadow of a doubt.
But modern troops who sign up to the army to go fight in pointless wars miles away which aren't even our business... why should people be expected to respect them by default ? they are willingly signing up to be puppets for their governments and fight in wars which are widely publicised as being completely immoral. They will do whatever the government tells them, without question... usually this involves killing people.
I don't disrespect them for it but why should i or anyone else be expected to respect them for this by default ?
Lets try and keep this civil.
