Article on Toffeeweb main page got me thinking.
ToffeeWeb - Season 2009-10 - The MailBag
I am not so sure a 'superstar' is required, don't get me wrong a Marco Van Basten up front would be very nice, so long as he fit in, but I like that we have a close squad that work for each other and no individual player takes all the plaudits all the time. It is situations like that that make players too big for their boots and start thinking of moves away to supposed better opportunities.
How many superstars did Brian Clough recruit for his all conquering Derby side?
Superstar names bring superstar egos and superstar expectation. Think 'Morientes', 'Rebrov', 'Van Hooijdonk', 'Robinho', 'Veron', 'Viana', 'Shevchenko', 'Marlet'.

Henry became a superstar at Arsenal.
Torres won nothing at Liverpool.
Rooney an exception like Drogba is.
Anelka, prime example of a player with a bigger ego that Craig Bellamy's. "the incredible sulk" Won a bit at Arsenal then bugger all as he travelled through seven (?) clubs. Back on his feet at Chelsea, but i'd have medals if allowed to play in that side.
Tevez - jury is out, nothing at city yet, some medals from Man U that didn't want to keep him.

Edit: 'Pavlyuchenko' 'Jeffers' 'Diouf' 'Owen' 'Reyes' 'Cisse' 'Beattie' 'Elmander' 'Alves'

Landon is considered a superstar isn't he ?
Timmy is the top Australian sportsman ( go to town here l.c.a.b:D) ?
Pienlaar would be up on the saffers list.

Cloughies Forest team achieved far more than Derby will ever achieve.

Diniyar is a supertsar.

Fellaini has risen through the ranks (fame wise) here but is one of the biggest names in Belgium.

That's where Moye's has been very astute with his buys, they have been relatively under the radar here (fan wise, although i think other managers would've been well aware of every one of them) but have been 'superstars' in their homelands, i think their pyschological profiles must have been well looked into as well though as all have seemed to be quite down to earth without massive ego's.

I can't help wondering if the footy manager guys have doctored their database on the game to give us an advantage that others simply don't have access to ( i could give them a shat on the back for introducing formations to everyone though as they really make my sh1t-itch in posts).

we have players that are relatively unknown to the housewives of the u.k. but are household names in their own backyards, something that was said of Kendalls team was that he took a group of players from being unknowns to names that every housewife in the country knew.

It's a matter of tactic and man management. Staying clear of them just because they are big names doesn't make sense. I'll be surprise if Moyes says no to Torres just because he won nothing at Liverpool.

By the time the ignoramus has finished with him there'll be nothing left worth salvaging. They should sell him before he's worth nowt.
