Convert belt?.... affecting the European weather.

The jet stream mate, and that’s wind not current is what has the effect on our weather.
Not quite. Since you raise the subject .... (I was speaking tongue in cheek in my first post).
The jet stream can effect our seasonal weather by bringing in warm or cold snaps, or rain, butvthe NA conveyor permanently brings us warmer weather than our latitude should have. Moscow is a similar latitude to us and has winters down to -40 C because the NA conveyor doesn't benefit that far inland.

My brother in Canada lives at the same latitude as Madrid but digs through 6 foot if snow each winter to get his car out.

The NA conveyor brings billions of tonnes of warm water up from the gulf, which evaporates and rains on us. Every drop of freezing cold winter rain is actually bringing heat we wouldn't other wise have. It should be a lot lot colder.

Its called a conveyor because when it gets to the Arctic the once warm water sinks and takes the reverse journey back to the gulf along the ocean floor.

A concern about global warming is that melting ice in the Arctic is putting the brakes on the conveyor belt. When it stops we're going to get a lot lot colder. Ice age?

I think I know that. More to the point its a conveyor belt.

What ya saying Spud?

Sorry mate but no, it’s the jet stream that has the biggest effect on our weather and to areas near us of similar lattitues.

The Atlantic drift is basically a nock on effect of the W’lys of that latt I.e jet stream.

With it being a ‘drift’ current, affected by wind, where as the Gulf Stream is a gradient.

No mate. Trust me.

The NA drift is a convection cell. It moves with such a constant speed that oceanographers use it to calibrate their instruments. It isn't pushed by wind.

Unless the oceanographer lecturers I listened to at uni were pulling a fast one like.

Probably was mate because the ones I listened to said otherwise.
