Sunderland:From Facist to Racist

Saying a racist word does not in fact make you a racist Tubey, that's what Poyet was saying and any person with common sense would say the same.

He didn't support racism.

It does if it was said with negative intent.

For example, use of a certain word on South Park doesn't make the makers of South Park racists, because it was used for parody purposes with full knowledge of the meaning of the word.

However, Suarez racially abused Evra with negative intent.

Suárez's use of the term [negro] was not intended as an attempt at conciliation or to establish rapport; neither was it meant in a conciliatory and friendly way.

It was racism. At that moment in time, Suarez was being racist.

By defending Suarez's actions, Poyet is defending a racial abuse and supporting racism.

Again, that's not to say he is a "racist", nor is it to say Suarez is a "racist" now. But Poyet was clearly supporting racism.

Semantics.

You can't label someone as racist & then apply a tense to it ffs

It's not semantics at all, it's language - that's why I said "Suarez was" and "Robinson is". One is past tense which can apply to one set incident, the other is present tense which refers to the current day.

Find me the line where he defended Suarez's actions.

He disagreed with Evra's reaction. Nowhere did he say Suarez's use of a racist term was acceptable.

Actually, he did. He said the term "negro" was acceptable in Uruguay and it's our fault in England for not adapting to foreign people coming here, rather than vice versa. Which, of course, is insane.

He went as far as to comparing it to driving on the opposite side of the road - claiming that being offended by the term "negro" in England is like being offended by people driving on the right hand side of the road. Again, insane.

And disagreeing with Evra's reaction is supporting racism - saying that reporting racial abuse is "crying like a baby" says it all really.

It's not just insane, it's also completely untrue.

I do understand that in England the word is used differently, so we have to pay attention how we use it. We need to adapt. Do we as foreigners need to adapt more to England than England to us? Yes, of course. That's common sense.

Thought you were better than blatant lies Tubey.

In that interview he also specifically speaks out against racism ffs.

I played with a player, and nobody knew him as Fernando Cáceres,” he said. “Everyone knows him worldwide as Negro Caceres – even in the newspapers and on television they all him that. Is that racist? In England it is but in the rest of the world, in South America or Spain, it’s not. I understand people in this country and I changed my way of behaving, but Luis has been in this country just a few months. I played in Spain for seven years and they called me everything. It doesn’t make it right, but what do you want? Tell me what you want. If you try to go to a point that doesn’t exist in the rest of the world, it’s going to be complicated. You think the rest of the world is wrong and you are right. Maybe it looks like you want the whole world to drive on the right hand side. Do you want that? So you need to adapt as well.

..... Care to retract that statement?

He believes fellow Uruguayan Suarez needs time to adapt to the cultural differences of playing in the Premier League and feels the English game does not do enough to help foreign players.
He said: "You cannot accuse people without a proper investigation, especially when it's a foreigner who is coming from a different place where we treat people of colour in a different way.
"So it was very easy to accuse someone. Luis Suarez is 100% not a racist.

"England needs to understand how the rest of the world lives. If we have that understanding, easy."

"If that's what you want, fair enough. I take it and accept it. I had to behave in a different way because I've been in England for 13 years. So I know what you are like and I adapt to that. Give Suarez another six months and I think he'll be how you want him to be."

I disagree with him to be honest

If i went to Uruguay I'd be expected to follow their rules

It may be okay to say stuff like that in Uruguay but it isn't here and that doesn't give him an excuse

Just one mans opinion

Spot on, its a cops out excuse, literally no one who didnt have an invested interest in Liverpool of Uruguay defended him, even most reds didnt carry on the charade after he bit Ivanovic, Poyet did, hope fails in spectacular fashion, be a shame for Sunderland as I've had some good times up there, but Poyet is a beaut
