Was thinking of the great Man Utd midfield of Giggs, Scholes, Keane and Beckham.
They brought in players alongside Keane, such as Butt to be extra defensive and signed Veron to be more expansive.
If we say that McCarthy is in Keanes position for us or has the potential to do so and Barkley is playing in the same position as Scholes then do we need a playmaker or a defensive midfielder to play alongside McCarthy?
Also in central defence we have Stones who couls be classed as the ball player such as a Pique /Ferdinand type. The top teams have had partnerships where the other centre back is a monster rather than another ball player, is this the way to go when choosing Stones long term partner or would Martinez prefer a better version of Alcaraz meaning 2 ball players?
I think these decisions will be made in the summer and our style of play will be adapted to suit whichever way we go depending on these 2 signings.
