Moyes doesnt know how to play/treat strikers.

Beattie...Johnson...Yakubu...Saha - all of them are proven good but it never works out for us.

Scoring is not just down to strikers there needs to be distribution and chances made. Look at the yak now since he has had distribution from a midfield who offer it.

Also how you can put that on Moyes is beyond me. He probably tells them everyday they need to score without physically going out there and controlling them thats not possible.

As for amalias yes all he can do is ask them. Maybe the question should be should our midfield offer more for our strikers. I suspect injuries and playing two central defenders as midfielders for the most part may have something to do with that.

Don't get me wrong about the stats thing i love american sports and live for the most part in the U.S. but stats are the main talking point with every sport even soccer there and it sometimes ruins intelligent talk as there is alot more to sport than stats.

I wasn't putting it on Moyes mate, he wants them to score just as much as any Blue and i know that.

Being a good forward isn't all about scoring goals and stats, it's about winning headers, creating goals, working hard etc. - Duncan Ferguson, Drogba, etc.

But if you aren't doing anything else useful you've got to be slotting them - - Darren Bent, Demba Ba etc

Louis Saha does neither of the above.

With the way we play we need a forward who slots them in/takes most of the chances they get and none of our strikers are like that at all.

Any good available and purchasable poachers around nowadays? There is Rhodes but i think Huddersfield would hold out for more than we can afford and even if we do get him he'd be raw at this level.

I know I was just using it to point out how Saha offers virtually nothing to us. Vellios has taken most if not all of the good chances he's had.

I think Rhodes is just about the best we can hope for at the moment. He's scored 4 in one game something like 3 times this season and he's scored 5 hat tricks I think. Even for League 1 that's impressive.

Rhodes has 80 career goals in 149 career appearances and Beckford has 106 career goals in 234 career appearances and Rhodes is still much younger. Beckford came in and got a goal every 4 games for us which wasnt too bad considering he was from league 1 and it was his first season so it could be promising if we managed to get Rhodes.

Defoe could also be available but he'd probably cost too much which is unfortunate.

Distribution has been the problem. Saha compounds that problem with his positioning. We need a scrappy striker. Even McAleny has caused some trouble with pure movement. Cahill used to be scrappy and it got us goals.

One small quibble with the original post - LD has actually only played striker for a total of 30 minutes. Anichebe has also not played striker that entire time, going to RM right?

I don't mind using stats, but it's not quite right, and if you're calculating this way, we should include Cahill to depress us all as he's played striker more often then some of the guys on that list.
