Listen, I'll tell you what sort of a guy Arthur Scargill was.

My friend's dad was a good friend of his. He was also one of the first guys to sell VHS video cassettes in this country, and made a lot of money doing it. Scargill wanted him to donate a very large amount of money to his cause. When my friend's father refused, Scargill had him trashed in the gutter press as some sort of smut-peddler. Remember the "video nasty" stories in the Daily Mail and the like at the time? Yep, you got it.

It ruined my friend's dad and he died a pauper not long after while my mate was still a kid, through ill health bought on by that ****.

Great guy, Scargill. Top fella.

I'm finding it hard to believe that the press (especially the Mail) were at the bidding of well known communist revolutionary Arthur Scargill

Not a huge leap of imagination to imagine a politician behaving that way though, is it?

I doubt he went to the papers himself, in person and said "Hey, I got this story for you".

I was only a kid when it happened, I'm just relating why I dislike Arthur Scargill. You don't have to believe me. Pretty random thing to make up, mind.
